Voortman goes for green

From 1 January 2010, Voortman Kantoor-meubelen will make full use of green electricity. Green electricity is generated from natural and renewable energy sources, such as the sun, wind, water or biomass. No environmentally-hazardous fossil fuels are used for this form of electricity generation and CO2 emissions are limited.

E.ON Benelux recently awarded the sustainable energy certificate to Sjaak Lambalk, Director of Voortman.

The switch to sustainable energy demonstrates that the company places a high importance on Corporate Social Responsibility. The aim to reduce energy consumption and to use green electricity over the next few years is in keeping with the ultimate goal, which is to operate in a climate-neutral manner.

Other initiatives that have recently been developed to achieve this goal are the reduction in the quantity of waste produced during the production process, maximising the ability to separate and recycle the materials used, the use and re-use of packing blankets and the return of pallets.
